Our older two boys were in 9th and 10th Grade this year.  When we decided to begin homeschooling, we left the in public school to finish out high school.  Next year they will be old enough to drive themselves to school, so I took this picture to document the last time we hopefully will have to pick them up!

We are grateful to have completed our first year home schooling.  God blessed our family in numerous ways this school year through our decision to answer his call to begin this journey.  Our children had opportunities to grow in their faith and learn in a way that best suited their personality and learning style.  As we look forward to next year, we are reminded to hold our hands open to what plans God has in mind for our family and our children.

Happy 2nd Birthday Luke

Two years ago today, God blessed our family with you!
The day you were born            1st Birthday
2nd Birthday

Daddy made your cookie cake and Emily decorated it.

Every two year old deserves to have a tantrum....don't they!
Luke wanted to grab the cake and didn't appreciate it that we said no!

Life is better now that he has his own piece to eat!

Luke's favorite things

Happy 2nd Birthday sweet boy!  You bring such joy to our family.  We are so thankful that God chose to share you with us.  We are looking forward to seeing you grow and learn this year.
We Love You

Saturday Nights By the Fire

Brett has wanted to build a fire pit for years now.  Every year he talks about, but we never do it.  This year his dream became a reality when we were doing several improvement projects in the yard.  I must admit that it has been a great investment and all of our children are enjoying it.  I know that it will be used a lot this summer as the nights get longer and the kids enjoy being outside more.

One favorite activity so far is roasting marshmallows for smores.

Jake has found his contribution in supplying the firewood needed to keep the fire going.

Uncle Van taught the kids a trick to keep the smoke away when he visited us last month.

Recently at small group, a friend quoted something about friendship. It went something like, there is nothing better than sitting around the fire with friends.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day 2014
So thankful God chose me to be the Mom of our 8 kids.  Are the days easy?  Not by any stretch of the imagination.  Many days are long, all are selfless.  But I know that I am doing the work God called me to do.  I know that these long days will go quickly and not too far in my distant future I will be wishing them back again.  I love being a Mom

From my devotion this morning-
Mom, you must not merely point your children in the right direction, but by the example of your life you must take them there."
"Your child will be no kinder than you are...no happier than you are, and will not know God, his truths and his promises if you don't."

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
Proverbs 22:6

Spring Soccer

Thursday night and Saturday in our home are dedicated to soccer.  Emily and Matt have played spring and fall soccer for the past 3 seasons.  It is neat to see them learning and getting more confident with each season.  Emily plays is the U10 league and Matt in the U8 league.
Emily has enjoyed playing goal keeper and sweeper.

Matt is still playing on half a field.  He will move up to the next level in the fall.

Sometimes the other kids like to go along.  Occasionally they will actually watch the game

but most of the time they are doing this

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
Matthew 7:24
